Karin and Dieter are Full-time RV'ers
......which means having sold the home in Pennsylvania and living in a Recreational Vehicle since 2000. In 2002 we sold the 34' Fifth Wheel we owned and switched to a Motorhome. We could only afford a used one, a Winnebago Itasca Suncruiser from 1993 ( without slide-outs ), but it was well maintained and had a good Cummins Turbo Diesel engine in the back. It had only 190 HP and driving up mountain roads went a little slow, but we always got there where we wanted to be. The inside had a very practical layout, bedroom in the rear, furniture and carpets very clean. It harbored all the modern amenities one is looking for in a camper, including a generator, entertainment center, microwave oven and much more.
And we had a third person on board - our cat Susi. She died at the age of 13 in Texas, in 2009, but she was our wonderful travel companion for 11 years. She went with Dieter on long walks while on a leash. She was well behaved and never showed any bad temper. She seemed to be eager to please us rather than being annoying sometimes. Dieter's lap was her favorite place
In hindsight we are very glad we chose to drive to Alaska early as full-timers, in 2003. In later years Dieter was ailing for some years and the fuel prices went up and up. We would never have attempted that big tour at a later point. At that time I had a new digital camera with low storage capacity and I was very often reluctant even to use it.... sometimes the landscapes were breathtaking, but there was no room to park our unit or our windshield was dirty.
The following 2 pictures show Dieter and Karin Bartsch and our Susi ( † ).
I also want to mention on this Home page, that I maintain another website with about 22 pages, including Travel Pictures, Location Records and some fun pages, including philosophical and about cooking. Another interesting page there is: Karin the Author. My book info and order info - all there. Thanks for your attention.
